Raised in Louisville Kentucky, Sharon Dickens received her first camera at age 16 after signing up for photography as a high school elective. Her first and only course; she quickly developed a following of drama students clamoring for head shots and praising her ability to set them at ease in front of the lens. Although during this time she was more focused on her musical studies, gaining performance scholarships from prestigious institutes such as the New England Conservatory and the Manhattan School of Music it - was a chance afternoon brainstorm about what direction to take in her young life when she thought back to her childhood and remembered her love of playwriting. Thinking back, Sharon Dickens recalled her first film production at age six (in which she cast her cousins as actors and convinced her uncle to film on his camcorder. This conjured funny memories of a 6 year old Sharon Dickens arguing with her 8 year old sister over changing the script and improvising on her own.) Remembering this childhood passion convinced Sharon Dickens to pursue filmmaking as an effort to combine all of her artistic loves - Writing, Photography and Music. While experimenting on her own and collaborating with other eclectic artists Sharon Dickens has developed a passion for shooting outside the boundaries of studio walls while utilizing pure ambient light. It's this combination of her photographer’s eye, writer’s ear, laid back persona and thirst for knowledge that now establishes her as an emerging and innovative artist.
